Clinic to help Fill A Prescription for the Needy

WBRZ News 2 Louisiana, St. Vincent de Paul Community Pharmacy, The Baton Rouge Clinic and Forum 35 are partnering this Lenten season by helping to raise funds to provide prescription services for those in need. The project will kick off Wednesday, February 17th, and continue through Monday, April 5th. Now in its 13th year, this volunteer-driven program tremendously improves the quality of life for the elderly, the poor, and the homeless who receive or may depend on life-sustaining prescriptions. Besides, maintaining their health, proper prescription care also helps cut down on the number of emergency room visits.

The Baton Rouge Clinic, pharmacies, medical centers and businesses are participating by displaying special collection containers designed to look like oversized prescription bottles. By putting a cash donation in the prescription bottle, an individual can contribute directly to the St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy.

Last year, the campaign raised $80,000 and filled thousands of prescriptions for needy citizens in twelve parishes. WBRZ has pledged its full support to make this program bigger and better than ever. Pat Shingleton, WBRZ’s Chief Forecaster, developed “Fill a Prescription for the Needy” and has been instrumental as the spokesperson in past years by promoting the campaign on his evening weathercasts.

“There are those in our community that cannot afford prescription medicine. St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy is a last resort to assist those in need,” said Shingleton. “WBRZ Channel 2, working in conjunction with the Baton Rouge Clinic and Forum 35, hopes to raise more than $80,000 to help the St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy. Once again the need has escalated in our area and a contribution when you fill your prescription will be greatly appreciated."

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, one of the oldest charitable institutions in the Baton Rouge community, continues to provide quality caring services including a store, distribution center, a dining hall, and several shelters for the less fortunate.

St. Vincent de Paul will host a jambalaya lunch on Monday, March 8th and Monday, March 22nd at the Baton Rouge Clinic, 7373 Perkins Road, between 10:30am and 1:30pm. The lunch plates will cost six dollars and include jambalaya, salad, roll, and dessert. All proceeds will benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy.

The “Fill a Prescription for the Needy” project is sponsored by The Baton Rouge Clinic. For additional information on “Fill a Prescription”, visit WBRZ.com.
