Sleep medicine is a subspecialty devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of sleep disturbances and disorders. At the Baton Rouge Clinic, physicians with board certification in pulmonary medicine supervise all patient care.
Sleep Disorders: Our objective is to relieve conditions that prevent adults from getting the nighttime rest they need to be their best during the day. Our clinical team frequently works with patients who suffer with issues related to snoring, daytime sleepiness and fatigue, insomnia, abnormal sleep-wake rhythm, sleep-walking, frequent nightmares and nocturnal confusion narcolepsy and other disorders of daytime sleepiness among others.
Treatments: Once the condition has been diagnosed, most sleep-wake disorders can be treated effectively. Accurate diagnosis relies on a thorough assessment of both the patient’s physical and emotional health. Fortunately, many patients can improve the quality of their lives with only a modification of sleep schedule. For others, the best solution may lie involve breathing assistive devices (CPAP), medication, psychotherapy. Occasionally, surgery may be necessary to relieve severe breathing problems disturbing sleep.
